2 Kentucky teens killed, 2 injured in crash

| Oct 24, 2018 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

Two teenagers were killed and two others suffered injuries characterized as life-threatening after the car they were riding in was struck by a car being pursued by police in Hardin County, Kentucky.

An 18-year-old man was driving three of his friends home from a school-related party one recent evening when the crash occurred. The young man, from Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and a 17-year-old passenger were pronounced dead on the site. Two other passengers, both juveniles, were taken to Norton Children’s Hospital.

Law enforcement investigators said a 36-year-old man from West Virginia struck the teens’ car at U.S. 31 West and Battle Training Road. The man was taken to Hardin County Memorial Hospital with injuries that weren’t life-threatening.

When he was released from the hospital, he was placed in the custody of the Meade County Sheriff’s Office. He is charged with a number of offenses from possession of a controlled substance to wanton endangerment.

A woman riding in the man’s car, also 36 and of West Virginia, was hospitalized and released into the custody of law enforcement. She was being detained in the Hardin County Detention Center on a fugitive warrant, and she also was charged with possession of a controlled substance.

The mother of the teenage driver was devastated.

“I expect to hear the car pull in the driveway. I expect to see him come through the door, and he’s never going to do that again,” she told television station WLKY.

The deaths of these young people will affect their families for years to come, and the passengers who were injured will have a long road back.
