A recent Lawrenceburg graduate dies in a tragic car crash

An 18-year-old Lawrenceburg woman who was involved in a car crash on the evening of Sept. 6 died from her injuries on the morning of Sept. 11. She'd graduated from Anderson County High School (ACHS) earlier this summer.

A spokesperson for the Kentucky State Police (KSP) released a statement about the incident that resulted in the teen's fatal injuries soon after her death on Sept. 11.

In that report, the spokesperson outlined how the young woman had just left an ACHS football game and was traveling along U.S. 127 on the evening of Sept. 6. It's then that her vehicle was struck by another motorist that was being pursued by police.

The crash left the teen and her car's other two occupants with serious injuries. The decedent suffered undisclosed fatal wounds. One of her friends ended up fracturing her spine. The vehicle's other occupants are expected to make a full recovery from their injuries.

Police ultimately tracked down the Hawesville motorist that struck the woman's vehicle. They then placed him under arrest. He was later booked in jail on fleeing and evading police, driving under the influence (DUI) and first-degree assault charges. Prosecutors have yet to decide whether to upgrade the charges now that young motorist has died.

Drunk motorists are responsible for seriously wounding or killing countless motorists here in Lexington and other parts of the state and country every year. Many jurisdictions have laws on the books that require police to pull back in pursuing a motorist to avoid putting others' lives at risk.

If you've been hurt or lost a loved one to either a drunk motorist or in a police chase gone wrong, then an attorney can advise you of your right to sue any liable parties for their negligence.
